Col. Joe Engle, commander of the recent space shuttle Discovery flight, will speak today at the 1985 Investiture Ceremony of San Diego’s International Aerospace Hall of Fame.
Being inducted are two aviation pioneers, Lord Hugh Dowding, strategist of the Battle of Britan in World War II, and Alexander Martin Lippisch, innovative German aeronautical engineer who developed the flying wing design. Both are deceased and will be represented by family members or associates.
Portraits of those honored are placed in the gallery of the Hall of Fame in Balboa Park.
