Kuwait-Bound Ship Intercepted by Iran

TEHRAN — Iran said its navy Sunday intercepted a Panamanian-registered ship suspected of carrying cargo to Iraq and ordered it into a southern Iranian port for investigation.
The national news agency IRNA said the 9,443-ton Gulf Pioneer, which was heading for Kuwait with a 20-member Filipino crew, was detained near the Strait of Hormuz because it had “suspicious cargo apparently bound for Iraq.”
Iran has stepped up inspections of vessels in and near the gulf in recent weeks in a search for cargo destined for Iraq, its enemy in a war of more than five years.
