Whittier

The Whittier City School District has been awarded $6 million in state funds to overhaul its aging school sites. The district applied for funds under the state School Building Reconstruction Program, which provides money for the renovation of schools 30 years or older. Nine of the district’s 10 schools were constructed before 1955.

District Supt. Neal Avery said the money will be used to improve classroom lighting and security, reduce outside noise and energy use, and repair plumbing, roofs, playgrounds and lunch areas in the elementary school system.
