Pitcher Danny Darwin of the Milwaukee Brewers also filed for free agency, and the St. Louis Cardinals said they will not offer a contract to catcher Darrell Porter for the 1986 season.
Darwin posted an 8-18 record in 1985 and had an earned-run average of 3.80.
Porter, who will be 33 in January, was the Most Valuable Player of the 1982 World Series. He hit .221 with 10 homers and 36 RBIs this year for the National League pennant winners.
