India to Use Fish to Fight Mosquitoes

CALCUTTA, India — Municipal authorities, fighting a losing battle against mosquitoes and malaria, have decided to release thousands of little mosquito-eating fish into Calcutta drains to check the growing problem.
Reports Tuesday said that gappi fish, which eat mosquito larvae, have been tested with success in certain mosquito-infested areas.
Other species of fish also are likely to be imported from African countries in the onslaught against the insects, the reports said.
