A Municipal Court judge today scheduled a Feb. 24 preliminary hearing for accused “Night Stalker” Richard Ramirez. Judge Candace Cooper denied a request by Ramirez’s attorneys to schedule the hearing for next May, saying such a time delay in the case would be “excessive.”
The preliminary hearing, expected to last two to four months, will determine whether Ramirez, 25, will stand trial on 68 felony counts, including 14 murders. Ramirez, a drifter from El Paso, is also charged with a 15th murder in San Francisco.
