Police Investigate Slaying of Woman

Orange homicide detectives Friday were investigating the death of a woman whose body was found in her bed. She had sustained major head injuries.
Hettie Lucille Mathews’ body was found about 7 p.m. Thursday by a neighbor and co-worker who called on Mathews after she failed to show up at work, according to Sgt. Ed Tunstall.
No weapon was found, Tunstall said. There were no signs of a forced entry or a struggle, and there was no evidence of a burglary, Tunstall added. Mathews, 61, lived alone in the 100 block of South James Street.
