Manhattan Beach : Trackless Trolley Service

Buses designed to resemble turn-of-the-century trolley cars could begin running in the city next March under an agreement reached between the city and American Trolley Lines.
The City Council on Tuesday appropriated $24,000 from Proposition A sales-tax revenue for the trackless trolley service. If the agreement between the city and American Trolley Lines receives final approval, trolleys would operate along two routes beginning March 1. The fare would be 50 cents.
American Trolley Lines operates a similar transit service in Redondo Beach at no charge to the city. The firm, however, would not offer Manhattan Beach the same deal, city officials said.
One route would run east-west along Marine Avenue and Manhattan Beach Boulevard. The other would follow an oblong route from downtown, along Ardmore Avenue to Marine Avenue, then north through Manhattan Village Mall, west on Rosecrans Avenue and south on Highland Avenue.
