Group Asks Curbs on Sex in Bathhouses

AIDS Project Los Angeles, one of the largest local groups that helps support AIDS victims and research, called on government agencies Thursday to enforce “reasonable regulations” to stop sexual activities in bathhouses that could transmit the AIDS virus.
Sexual contact between promiscuous gay men in bathhouses has been linked to the spread of acquired immune deficiency syndrome, a fatal disorder of the immune system that afflicts mostly homosexual and bisexual men.
Earlier, gay organizations in New York and Los Angeles had endorsed plans to regulate or close bathhouses that permit unsafe sexual contacts.
