Inglewood : Free Downtown Parking
In an effort to bolster business for downtown Inglewood merchants, the City Council has agreed to offer free parking at about 400 meters east of La Brea Avenue beginning Monday.
The free-parking zones will be identified by brightly colored hoods placed on selected meters in the downtown area bounded by La Brea, Prairie Avenue, Centinela Avenue and Century Boulevard.
“Downtown businesses are trying to get the community to come back into the downtown area rather than shop at the malls where parking is free and plentiful,” said Wesley Greenwood, president of the Inglewood Chamber of Commerce.
Inglewood merchants noticed a marked increase in business when the city offered free parking along city streets during the 1984 holiday season, Greenwood said.
