According to the report by the Conference Board, salaries and bonuses for the nation’s commercial banking executives increased 14% in 1984, more than for executives in other industries. The study also indicated increasing use of annual bonuses, especially by manufacturing and construction businesses. Compensation increased 11% in 1984 from the previous year for executives of manufacturing and utility companies, 10% for insurance executives, 8% for executives of retail companies and 7% for top construction company executives.
