Israeli troops and tanks reportedly supervised by the armed forces chief of staff, Lt. Gen. Moshe Levy, killed five Palestinian guerrillas in southern Lebanon in the Israelis’ deepest drive into the area since their formal withdrawal last summer. There were no Israeli casualties in the operation, north of the Israelis’ security zone, an army spokesman said. Military sources said that Levy was in the area to supervise the attack against guerrillas based in caves north of Hasbaya.
