Simi Police Chief Back at Job After Shooting Accident

Simi Valley Police Chief Lindsey P. Miller returned to work “in good spirits” Wednesday, nearly a week after accidentally shooting himself with his .38-caliber pistol, a department spokesman said.
Lt. Rick TerBorch said Miller was putting his holstered pistol in the waistband of his trousers at his home in Thousand Oaks Friday when the trigger caught on his belt and he shot himself in the left buttock. Although the bullet exited from his thigh, he suffered no nerve or bone damage and the wound was not serious enough to require surgery or stitches, TerBorch said.
TerBorch said Miller returned to work “a little sore, but he’s carrying himself well and he’s in good spirits.” He said the department had not released the information before this week in order to save the chief embarrassment.
Miller, chief since 1983, could not be reached for comment. He joined the department after retiring from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The chief received some ribbing from fellow police officers along with get-well wishes while he was recuperating, TerBorch said.
