San Diego Prep Basketball : Poway Pulls Away to Beat Point Loma

SAN DIEGO — Poway High School, led by 22 points from Jud Buechler and 21 from Dominick Johnson, ran its record to 2-0 Thursday by beating visiting Point Loma, 78-71.
The Pointers (1-1) remained close to Poway until the final minute, when a basket by Buechler and two free throws by Gary Anderson (16 points) insured the Titans’ win.
In other action Thursday:
Hoover 58, La Jolla 50--The Cardinals made six straight free throws in the final two minutes to pull away at La Jolla in the season-opener for both teams. The Vikings led, 27-25, at halftime and the score was tied, 46-46, with 2:10 to play. La Jolla’s Yancy Brown led all scorers with 19 points.
