For the second year in a row, Chatsworth High School has won the countywide mock trial competition sponsored by the Constitutional Rights Foundation and will represent Los Angeles County in the state competition March 18 to 20 in Sacramento.
Seven Chatsworth students-- Rhonda Campbell, Steven Finkel, Kathy Lincoln, Amy Romine, Rachel Thorton, Twe Lum Tram and Todd Zucker--defeated a team from Windward School, a private Culver City institution, in the finals Tuesday night at the Los Angeles County Courthouse.
The Chatsworth team acted as attorney, defendant and witnesses in a case titled “People vs. Dennis,” a school vandalism case.
The team is coached by Alan Kachic, a criminal-justice student at California State University, Los Angeles.
In the junior high school competition, Macy Intermediate School in Monterey Park won for the fourth time, defeating Sepulveda Junior High.
Competition judges were Superior Court Judge Judith C. Chirlin and Deputy Dist. Atty Mitchell J. Block. The event, which drew more than 1,500 competitors, is co-sponsored by the Los Angeles County Bar Assn. and the Daily Journal, a legal newspaper.
