Fullerton : $800,000 Set Aside for Proposed Parking Area

Acting as the city Redevelopment Agency, the City Council has voted to set aside $800,000 in an effort to build a four-story parking structure near Plummer Auditorium.
The parking area, at the southeast corner of Pomona and Chapman avenues, would serve Plummer Auditorium, Fullerton High School and Fullerton College, as well as overflow parking from the downtown area, said Ron Hagan, director of community services.
The $800,000 allocation, approved at last week’s meeting, would allow city staff members to negotiate a purchase price for the site, where a vacant medical laboratory sits.
City staff members will also begin to work out the details of financing the entire project--expected to cost about $4 million. The school district and Fullerton College may share the cost of the project.
A spokeswoman said the city needs the 550-space structure to relieve a parking shortage at both schools and the auditorium.
