Mt. San Antonio

The editorial “Our Unmatchable Mountains,” was most interesting, but I just want to reinforce the fact that Mount San Antonio is referred to as Mount Baldy by most Californians I know. My mother was born in the Norwalk area in the 1880s and spent most of her life in Whittier and Montebello. I was born in Whittier and attended school in Montebello, Pasadena Junior College and spent two years in Whittier College, and I never heard it referred to as Mount San Antonio. I spent many years teaching in La Puente and Los Angeles. I agree with the Mt. Baldy postmaster: “The only people who call it Mount San Antonio are from another country or another state.” I was glad to find out why the community college was named Mt San Antonio College.
