WASHINGTON — Demonstrators representing refugees from Soviet-bloc countries picketed ABC News headquarters Friday and sang “God Bless America” to protest the network’s postponement of a miniseries after threats from Moscow.
Production of “Amerika,” which depicted a fictional Soviet takeover of the United States, was postponed after the Soviet Union threatened to expel ABC’s Moscow correspondent.
About 25 demonstrators from the Freedom Federation carried signs that read: “If you like censorship, go with the best--KGB,” and, “Which is it--Kremlin Broadcasting Company or American Broadcasting Company?”
ABC said it has made no decision on the miniseries’ future.
