San Diego Women’s College Basketball : USD Free Throws Defeat Loyola; UCSD Takes Sixth Straight

Accurate free-throw shooting enabled the University of San Diego to pull away from Loyola Marymount and win, 59-47, Friday night in the West Coast Athletic Association basketball opener for both teams at Loyola.
The Toreros (1-0, 6-7) led, 31-26, at halftime, but the Lions (0-1, 2-13) remained close for much of the second half until fading in the final four minutes. USD made 21 of 25 from the free-throw line.
Julie Evans scored 18 points and had eight rebounds for the Toreros. Debbie Theroux added 10 points and 10 rebounds. Loyola was led by Chris Connolly, who had 15 points and 11 rebounds.
