Why do all TV series open with...

Why do all TV series open with two minutes of scenes from the program they are about to show us? Surely they cannot be so daring as to think we will be so fascinated by the preview that we wouldn’t consider changing channels? Why not get rid of the first set of commercials and bring on (hopefully) good stuff? Don’t show us what you’re going to show us!
