Rep. Dan Rostenkowski (D-Ill.), chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, said he would plead guilty to drunken driving charges after his arrest while returning from a high school reunion. Rostenkowski had refused a breath test after he was stopped by police early Sunday in Burlington, Wis., police said. “The police acted professionally at all times,” the congressman said. He said he considered “driving under the influence a very serious offense. “Fortunately, in this instance, no one was hurt,” he said. He is scheduled to appear in court June 16.
