LONDON — Chinese Communist Party leader Hu Yaobang held talks with Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher today centering on the smooth transfer of Hong Kong to Chinese sovereignty in 1997.
They met on the first full day of a four-day visit by the 71-year-old Hu, the first Chinese Communist Party chief to tour West Europe. Hu reviewed an honor guard earlier in the quadrangle of the Foreign Office and will be Queen Elizabeth’s guest at a luncheon in Buckingham Palace on Wednesday to discuss her visit to China next October.
