Toddler Dies After Being Hit by Van

An 18-month-old San Diego girl died of head injuries after she was struck by a van in front of her home Tuesday while following her brother to an ice cream truck, coroner’s deputies reported.
Ada Maria Ortega, daughter of Nicolas and Maria Ortega, reportedly ran into the street from behind a parked car, deputies said.
The accident occurred in the 2600 block of L Street at 6:10 p.m. The girl was taken by Life Flight to UC San Diego Medical Center, where she died at 7:21 p.m.
The driver of the van, Josephina Sanchez, 33, of San Diego, was reportedly driving about 15 m.p.h. and was not cited, deputies said.
