City officials are scheduled to decide Tuesday whether the sale of hot foods will be allowed in gas station mini-marts that sell beer and wine.

Councilman E. Llewellyn Overholt Jr. introduced an ordinance banning hot foods at mini-marts, reasoning that drivers might not wait to reach home to eat hot hamburgers, instead gulping them down on the way, along with drinks. If the drinks were beer or wine, it could result in an accident, he said.

During a City Council meeting June 3, three of the five council members indicated that they did not support Overholt’s proposal.

Mini-mart representatives have argued that the ordinance discriminated against their industry.
