El Segundo : Permit Parking Fee Waived

The City Council this week waived a fee for residents who receive preferential permit parking in the northeast corner of the city.
The permit program, which is designed to deter aerospace and industrial employees from parking on residential streets, has been in a pilot stage since December, 1985. Residents were to have paid $10 for the permits pending final council approval Tuesday night.
In a 3-1 vote, with councilman Keith Schuldt absent, the City Council agreed to continue the permit program without charging residents for the permits. Mayor Jack Siadek opposed the measure. City officials said the waiver kept residents from paying for a problem they did not create.
Streets in the permit zone, which stretches from Main Street to Sepulveda Boulevard will be monitored between 10 and 11 a.m. and again between 2 and 3 p.m. Owners of cars parked on residential streets without city permits are subject to fines.
