Long Beach : Go-Ahead for Restaurant

The Redevelopment Agency has approved plans by a Long Beach restaurateur to rehabilitate a vacant Pine Avenue building as a restaurant. John H. Morris, part owner of Legends bar and restaurant, told agency members that he plans to add a second story and a brick facade to a vacant building on the east side of Pine Avenue near Broadway, open a full restaurant downstairs and serve breakfast, sandwiches and soup upstairs.
Low-interest financing for the $1.5 million project is being arranged by the city-operated Long Beach Development Corp., said Regina Peterson, development officer for the Long Beach Economic Development Department. Half the money is coming from Queen City Bank of Long Beach, 40% from the Small Business Administration and 7.5% from the city, Peterson said.
Morris said he expects the restaurant, to be called Mum’s, to open in October. It will seat 248 downstairs and 160 upstairs.
