Norwalk : School Budget $63 Million

The Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District approved a tentative $63 million budget for 1986-87, an increase of more than $2 million over the current budget. The increase is made possible largely by lottery funds, according to a staff report.
The budget includes an allocation of $377,761 to reopen Walnut Elementary School in Norwalk. The school will open in September to accommodate a burgeoning elementary school-age population.
School district costs that have increased include utilities, maintenance and insurance, which jumped from $298,525 in the current budget to $420,770 in the new one.
The board also approved the transfer of lottery monies totaling $189,000 from the general fund to the deferred maintenance and adult education funds.
