Santa Ana Doubles Team Advances in Columbus Classic

INDIANAPOLIS — The first-seeded team of Tim Pawsat and Craig Miller, both of Santa Ana, defeated Glen Williams of Fort Worth, Tex., and Kevin Ryan of Maspeth, N.Y., 6-4, 6-2, in the first round of men’s doubles Wednesday in the Columbus Tennis Classic.
In the second round of men’s singles, Mihnea Nastase of Largo, Fla., defeated No. 1 seed Richard Schmidt of Madison, Wis., 6-3, 6-4.
In other singles action, third-seeded Scott Melville of San Marino beat Mark Wooldridge of Santa Barbara, 6-4, 6-3; Brian Barker of Trumbull, Conn., beat No. 4 seed John Carras of Midland, Mich., 7-6, 7-6; No. 5 seed Kent Kinnear of Greenwood, Ind., defeated Richard Ashby of Norcross, Ga., 6-2, 4-6, 7-5; and seventh-seeded Brian Page of Palos Hills, Ill., beat Jim Gray of Lorain, Ohio, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4.
