C. J. Ellson, one of his arms already in a cast, was simply doing the best job he could do on Father’s Day. He was umpiring a Seaview Little League for 13-year-old boys in Huntington Beach when he made a call one father, Robert Foster, apparently didn’t like.
Foster, who allegedly was harassing the 16-year-old umpire throughout the game, raced out of the bleachers during the game last Sunday and supposedly struck Ellson four times before other parents and spectators intervened.
Ellson was not seriously injured, but Huntington Beach Police Lt. Jim Walker said the incident was “an obvious assault and battery. The kid was knocked down in front of a lot of people.” Ellson, who has umpired Little League games for three years, filed an assault and battery complaint against Foster, who was barred by Seaview Senior League president Bruce Weaver from attending any more games.
