A House subcommittee prepared articles of impeachment against Harry E. Claiborne, the federal judge who has refused to resign while serving time in prison for tax evasion. The Judiciary Committee’s subcommittee on courts was to consider the articles, similar to an indictment, in open session today. Their approval by the full House would result in a Senate impeachment trial. If Claiborne is impeached and found guilty, he could be removed from the bench and barred from federal office.
