Michael Napolitano, who has been deputy director of the Alhambra Redevelopment Agency since 1979, will leave the post July 15 to open an Italian restaurant in Pennsylvania. Napolitano said that he is leaving Alhambra to be near his family in New Jersey.
No replacement has been chosen. Napolitano said he led the Redevelopment Agency’s efforts that resulted in the construction of the Alhambra Place shopping center, a 12-acre shopping area at Main and Garfield streets.
He also was involved in developing a redevelopment plan for the city that was challenged by a resident who charged that portions of the city were not decaying and therefore not eligible for redevelopment funds. The U.S. Supreme Court recently sided with the city.
