Soviet weightlifter Leonid Taranenko set a world record in jerk and snatch over 110-kilograms (242 1/2 pounds) class, totaling 467.5 kilograms (1,030 1/2 pounds) in a national championship in Lipetsk, Soviet Union, the official news agency Tass said.
Taranenko, who already holds the world record for his weight class, broke the old record in the jerk and snatch by 2.5 kilograms (5 1/2 pounds). The old mark was set in 1984 by Alexander Gunyashev of the Soviet Union.
