The California District Attorneys’ Assn. and Los Angeles County Dist. Atty. Ira Reiner endorsed Proposition 65, the so-called “get-tough-on-toxics” initiative on the Nov. 4 ballot, saying that the measure’s higher fines and penalties would make it easier to crack down on industrial polluters. Backers of the initiative emphasized that the prosecutors’ group is nonpartisan and “conservative” on many issues, hoping to blunt charges that the measure was drafted by Democratic Mayor Tom Bradley’s political strategists to boost his campaign for governor.
