The 1986 Commonwealth Games, boycotted by more than half the nations entered to protest Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher’s policies with South Africa, lost $6 million, Games chairman Robert Maxwell said.
Maxwell, a publisher, was called in by the organizers to launch a fund-raising program to offset predicted losses of the games which ended Aug. 2 in Edinburg, Scotland.
He said money was still being collected but admitted the loss was $750,000 more than anticipated last month.
