A fire caused $55,000 damage to a single-family house in Clairemont Tuesday morning, the San Diego Fire Department reported.
Fire units arrived at 4903 Mt. Hay Drive at 8:50 a.m. and found smoke coming from a rear bedroom that had been used as a crafts room. Twenty-five firefighters were at the scene for an hour.
The Metro Arson Strike Team determined that the fire was caused by discarded smoking materials. Two people in the house escaped injury.
