Residents evacuated from an aging apartment building that slipped off its rotting foundation on Friday were being allowed by city crews to enter the building in pairs to retrieve small valuables over the weekend. Thirty-six of the building’s 51 residents were sheltered by the American Red Cross at Virgil Junior High School, while the rest had found other housing, officials said. Officials said the almost 100-year-old building near downtown Los Angeles, which is still slowly shifting, will be demolished Monday.
