San Diego’s Mickelson Wins Golf Tournament

TARPON SPRINGS, Fla. — Phil Mickelson of San Diego shot a one-over-par 72 Friday to win medalist honors in the boys’ division of the American Junior golf tournament.
In the girls’ division, Christy Erb of Bonita was second at 149. Vickie Goetze of Hull Ga., shot a four-over 75 for a two-day total of 147 to take medalist honors.
Mickelson’s two-round total of one-over 143 was two shots better than second-place Taylor Tipton of Kerrville, Tex. Pat Bates of Boca Raton was third at 146.
The top 16 advance to the match-play championship flight.
