The victim, an unidentified man in his early 20s, was riding at 8:11 a.m. in the southbound bike lane on Vulcan Avenue. When he tried to make a left turn onto Encinitas Boulevard, he was hit by a northbound pickup truck, the CHP said.
The man was taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital in Encinitas, where he died about 40 minutes later of massive internal injuries, a coroner’s spokesman said. The driver of the truck was not cited, CHP officials said.
