Iraq Denies Killing Downed Iran Pilot

BAGHDAD, Iraq — The government Thursday denied a Tehran report that an Iranian air force pilot was killed in captivity after he was shot down over Iraq’s southern Faw Peninsula last February.
An Iranian official said Wednesday that Iraqi patrols were ordered to seek out and kill pilot Mansoor Mohammadi Azad after his jet crashed.
A Baghdad military spokesman described the charge as “a poor chapter from a play fabricated by the Iranian rulers to divert the attention of world public opinion from their defeats.”
