Assembly Speaker Willie Brown (D-San Francisco) named 25 committee chairmen--24 Democrats and one Republican. Assemblyman Larry Stirling (R-San Diego) will retain the chairmanship of the Public Safety Committee. Assemblyman Johan Klehs (D-San Leandro) was picked to chair the Revenue and Taxation Committee. Klehs replaces Assemblyman Thomas M. Hannigan (D-Fairfield), who became majority floor leader.
