An undisclosed number of grenades has been discovered missing from a supply post at Ft. Ord, officials at the U.S. Army base near Monterey said. The disappearance was noted during a routine inventory check at the base’s ammunitions supply point, Capt. Henry Hebert said. He said that “a portion of a case” containing 30 grenades was apparently taken but that investigators have requested that the exact number of missing grenades not be released. Monterey County law enforcement agencies have been alerted. Hebert said there was a similar incident of missing grenades at the base a year ago but that they were recovered within 72 hours. Only Army and other federal officials have legal access to the supply post, and Hebert said more than 100 of them are being interviewed.
