Sales of U.S. consumer electronics jumped 17%.

Despite the gain, 1986 domestic sales remained dwarfed by imports, the Electronic Industries Association said. About $6.7 billion in U.S.-made televisions, videocassette recorders, stereos and other consumer electronics were sold in 1986, up from $5.7 billion the previous year. Overall, sales of U.S.-made electronic equipment, components and related products were a record $205.9 billion last year, a 2% gain over the 1985 total of $201.4 billion. Figures for total sales including imports were not available.
