Former San Diego County Registrar of Voters Ray Ortiz and two co-defendants accused of stealing public funds by manipulating a county printing contract have been ordered to stand trial in Superior Court by a Municipal Court judge. Ortiz, his longtime friend Maria Caldera and election consultant Lance Gough will be arranged Jan. 30. Ortiz is accused of grand theft, misappropriation of public funds and other charges in the alleged misuse of a county contract with a Los Angeles printing firm to cover up thousands of dollars of unrelated expenses, mainly trips by Ortiz, his wife and friends. His co-defendants face lesser charges.
