Magic Johnson scored 28 of his 42 points in the second half--22 of them in the third quarter--today as the Los Angeles Lakers rallied to hand the New Jersey Nets their sixth consecutive NBA loss, 126-115, in East Rutherford, N.J.
In New York, meanwhile, Louis Orr dribbled through the Boston defense and banked in a 21-footer at the buzzer, giving the New York Knicks a 111-109 NBA victory over the Celtics. Boston had trailed 108-100 with 1:20 left, but Larry Bird scored seven straight points to make it 109-107 with 46 seconds left. Kevin McHale hit two free throws to tie the score with eight seconds left.
