American Nick Thometz set a U.S. national record of 1 minute 13.28 seconds to win the 1,000-meter World Cup speedskating at Davos, Switzerland.
American Eric Henrikkson finished sixth in 1:15.81.
In the 5,000-meter competition, Norway’s Gair Karlstad set a rink record with a time of 6:53.97. He finished more than five seconds ahead of Konstantin Korokhov of the Soviet Union, who clocked 6:59.62.
