William R. Hewlett, billionaire co-founder of electronics giant Hewlett-Packard Co., will retire as vice chairman of the company’s board of directors on Feb. 24, the company announced.
Hewlett, 73, will continue to serve as director emeritus of the company he founded in a garage in 1939 with David Packard, HP’s chairman.
Hewlett’s 42-year-old son, Walter, an independent computer researcher, and Packard’s 46-year-old son, David, chairman of a computer research firm involved with ancient languages, were nominated to serve on the board.
Also nominated for the board was Donald E. Peterson, 60, chairman and chief executive of Ford Motor Co.
