New Orleans Saints’ running back Rueben Mayes, the 13th runner chosen in the 1986 NFL draft, has been voted the Rookie of the Year by the Professional Football Writers of America. Mayes, who rushed for 1,353 yards, sixth-highest ever by an NFL rookie, and averaged 4.7 yards per carry, was a landslide winner, being named by 78% of the voting writers.
