Quarterback Jason Schmid, who was the 1985 state community college football player of the year at Saddleback College, has left USC, according to Bill Cunerty, Saddleback assistant football coach.
Schmid redshirted this season at USC after playing two seasons at Saddleback.
The USC sports information department said Schmid would be academically ineligible during the spring semester.
Cunerty said Schmid has enrolled at Saddleback, where he has no athletic eligibility left, and is taking 19 units in an effort to get his Associate of Arts degree.
Schmid was unavailable.
