Carson Adds Avalon Park Line to Its Popular City Bus Service

Carson — Prompted by the popularity of the city’s bus service, the City Council voted unanimously to add a bus line in north Carson and provide extra buses before and after school to alleviate crowding.
After residents argued for service on their block, the council approved a staff recommendation to split Route A, which now runs north along Avalon Boulevard from the Carson Mall to 169th Street.
In the new configuration, Route A-Cal State, Dominguez Hills, will provide better service to the Stevenson Village area by operating east on Bitterlake Street to Central Avenue. In addition, a residential area bordered by Millmore and Coltman avenues and another on 184th Street will receive bus service for the first time.
The new Route A-Avalon Park will serve the areas surrounding Avalon Park and provide transfer service to Gardena bus route 3 on Alondra Boulevard.
Extra school service will be provided on Route B and E from 7:15 to 9:15 a.m. and from 2:15 to 5:15 p.m.
The expanded service, estimated to cost an additional $150,000 a year, will be subsidized by the city’s portion of the countywide half-cent transportation sales tax.
