Acting Supt. Dorothy F. Fagan has been promoted to superintendent of the East Whittier City School District, replacing Gary F. Mills. In November, Mills went on a paid leave of absence until June 30, when his resignation becomes effective. A former teacher and public information coordinator, Fagan has worked for the East Whittier City School District for 25 years. Most recently, she served as assistant superintendent for personnel.
The promotion was made by the school district board, which also announced plans to hire a new assistant superintendent to replace Fagan, whose contract runs through Aug. 1, 1988. When she was named acting superintendent, her salary was increased to Mills’ pay level of $62,317 a year. No additional increase has been approved.
One of five elementary school districts in the Whittier area, East Whittier City operates nine elementary schools and three middle schools and has an enrollment of about 6,200.
